After Studies of philosophy and linguistics in Düsseldorf Mathias Schwerbrock startet his career in Munich directing commercials and short films Killing Boxes (Panorama Berlinale) and a medium length film Lumen (Hof). In 1994 he went to Berlin working as a production manager on a number of German feature films with directors Wolfgang Becker, Max Färberböck, Nico Hofmann and Rainer Matsutani before he moved on to line-produce mostly international feature films in China, Israel, US, Canada, Russia.

After executive-producing the films Nightsongs (Competition Berlinale) and Hamburger Lektionen by Romuald Karmakar he co-produced the Bollywood Blockbuster DON-The King is back with Excel Entertainment, Mumbai, directed by Farhan Akhtar featuring Shah Rukh Khan.

In 2011 his company Film Base Berlin service-produced the European Shoot of the series The Transporter for Atlantique Films in Paris followed by the South-Korean action-pic The Berlin File directed by Ryoo Seung-WAN. In 2013, Mathias Schwerbrock was line producing the Berlin shoot of Dreamworks' biopic The 5th Estate on Wikileaks founder Julian Assange directed by Bill Condon and Marjane Satrapi's Mandalay Vision production The Voices. In 2016/2017 he worked as a line producer on Ai WeiWei’s documentary Human Flow, shot in 22 countries and in 2017 on the Berlin I Love You feature film directed by Peter Chelsom, Massy Tadjedin, Dennis Gansel and Dany Levy.

In 2014/2015 Mathias co-produced Sharon Rhyba Khan’s documentary Recognition and Erez Pery’s The Interrogation in Israel followed by Ofir Graizer’s The Cakemaker in 2016. In 2015 & 2016 he service-prduced the Berlin shoots of the TV-Series The Man In The High Castle for Amazon and in 2017 Killing Eve for BBC US. 

During all this time Mathias has been tutoring at the Focal Institution (Swiss) on numerous workshops in Europe, teaching young Line Producers and 1rst AD's the skills of producing. In this time he also has been giving single lectures at the DFFB (Deutsche Film and Fernsehakademie Berlin) and the HFFF (Hochschule für Fernsehen und Film in Potsdam) and  became an Eave Participant with the project Big Fear and part of the Ekran program with the project Real by Dirk Schäfer at the Andrzej Wajda school in Warsaw. In July 2018 & 2022 Mathias was lectures on International film productions at the Academy of Films in Ludwigsburg, in 2019 he lectured at Focal-Producer-Workshops in Mumbai, India for Amazon and Netflix.
